Please join us to mark the closing of David Salle’s My Frankenstein with a walkthrough by artist Thomas Lawson. Both Salle and Lawson started their careers in the heady New York art scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s amid the so-called Pictures Generation, and both have used painting as their central medium. The two artists likewise share a passion for writing about art, as well as a long history with the California Institute of the Arts, with Salle as one of its first graduates in the mid-1970s and Lawson its Dean of the School of Art from 1991 to 2022. Lawson will share his perspective as an artist, writer, editor, and of course painter, as he considers Salle’s latest body of work.
