Megan Mulrooney is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new photographs by Rosie Clements. Clements is a photographer whose works also take on a sculptural presence: she transforms digital photographs into physical objects through experimental UV printing. Most recently, she has been printing directly onto sheets of bubble wrap, a material that is both irresistible to touch and typically meant to be discarded. Encased in plexiglass, the works both safeguard the surface and heighten the tension between the material’s tactile appeal and the impossibility of actually touching it.
From a distance, the images appear sharp, but up close they dissolve into pixel-like bubbles, producing a surface that is fragile, playful, and untouchable. By working with bubble wrap, an everyday substrate, and by moving into more figurative photographs, she brings consumer culture into direct conversation with image-making.
