Chelsea Bighorn (b. 1989, born in Tempe, AZ) is Lakota, Dakota, and Shoshone–Paiute and is based in Chicago. She is a textile artist who works in finding the beauty in her rich, mixed Native American and Irish American heritage. Finding great inspiration in the history of traditional dance. Bighorn has a BFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fiber Material Studies. Bighorn has had a solo exhibition at the Freeport Art Museum, Freeport, IL; and her work has also been shown at the Sheldon Museum of Art, Lincoln, NE; Museum of Contemporary Native Art, SITE Santa Fe, Catharine Clark Gallery in San Francisco; and The Center for Native Futures in Chicago, IL. Bighorn recently completed a residency with the Chicago Artist Coalition.
