Aabee Bleue Project presents A Room for Different Worlds, a group exhibition bringing together 24 artists, most of whom are based in Los Angeles and with whom we have personal relationships. The exhibition grew from our relationships with these artists and from our interest in spending more time with their practices and understanding their work beyond the gallery.
Over the past months, we made time to revisit their studios, meet with the artists, and learn more about their processes and the different bodies of work they have developed. From these visits, we selected one to several works by each artist, including some recent works and others from different series within their practices.
As the selection came together, we began to notice unexpected connections between the works. Landscape, flora, portraiture, and abstraction appear throughout the exhibition, but each artist approaches these subjects through their own visual language. Some works remain connected to recognizable forms, while others move toward abstraction, allowing very different ways of seeing to exist next to one another.
The title A Room for Different Worlds comes from this experience. Each artist brings their own world into the room, and we are curious about what happens when these different worlds simply stay next to one another. The installation developed through conversations with the artists, as well as with a few friends and collectors, and through moving the works around until the room began to feel right. There is no strict theme or fixed framework; the relationships between the works are allowed to develop naturally.
The exhibition will remain intentionally open and evolving until the opening. As we install, we continue to encounter artists and works that we feel belong in the room. We want to keep the possibility open to include additional artists until the day of the opening, allowing us to bring together as many of these individual worlds as possible and to see the stories they create when placed together. In this sense, A Room for Different Worlds is a gathering of artists, ideas, and ways of seeing—a room where different worlds can exist together while remaining entirely their own.
